Role Overview:
As the Pastoral Lead, you will have a multifaceted role in ensuring the well-being, safety, and overall development of students at our school. Your primary responsibilities include whole school behaviour management, student well-being, and leading the PSHE subject to ensure consistent coverage of statutory and non-statutory requirements. You will also focus on fostering a culture where pastoral care is a high priority in classrooms.
This is a split teaching and leadership role, with responsibility for a class, and a contact load of around 50%. The class teacher job description covers the responsibilities for the teaching element of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Whole School Behaviour Management:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive whole school behaviour management policy in collaboration with the Head of School and relevant stakeholders. This policy should be fair, consistent, and aligned with the school's values and mission.
• Provide guidance, training, and resources to staff members to maintain a positive and respectful school culture.
• Continuously monitor and analyse behaviour data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Intervene in challenging behaviour cases, offering guidance, support, and disciplinary measures as required.
• Communicate with parents, taking the lead or supporting the classroom teachers as required.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure classroom management strategies align with the school's behaviour policy.
2. Student Well-being:
• Oversee and enhance the school's well-being programs, focusing on mental and emotional health, social development, and student welfare.
• Establish and lead a support network for students, fostering a caring and inclusive environment.
• Implement and review pastoral care systems to ensure students have access to necessary support and guidance.
• Lead initiatives that promote student engagement, resilience, and a positive school experience.
3. PSHE Subject Coordination:
• Coordinate the PSHE curriculum to ensure it covers both statutory and non-statutory requirements, fostering a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience for students.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and update the PSHE curriculum, ensuring that it reflects current best practices and educational standards.
• Monitor and assess the delivery of PSHE lessons, providing guidance and support to teachers as needed.
• Ensure that PSHE lessons and programs are engaging and relevant to students.
4. Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Regularly review and analyse data related to behaviour, student well-being and PSHE.
• Prepare reports for senior leadership to provide updates on progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
5. Organisational Leadership:
• Draw up and review rosters for duty supervision.
6. Professional Development:
• Provide professional development opportunities for staff and parents to enhance their understanding of behaviour management, well-being and PSHE.
• Stay informed about best practices, research, and developments in these areas and disseminate knowledge to the school community.
