Laboratory Engineer Associate (Electrical & Electronics)
Job description
Engineering Part
- Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction. Projects may include travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
- Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements. Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues. Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
- Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements. Is familiar with applicable standards, company manuals and appropriate technical literature. Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
- Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory technicians and engineering support staff, and establishing completion dates. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. Serves as Project Handler of record and may sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
Testing Part
- Follows complex defined test plans and datasheets utilizing a single technology with necessary support.
- Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
- Records and explains test results and completes test report.
- Serves as Project Lead for simple test programs as assigned.
- Communicates project status and results as needed.
- Holds responsibility for defining test plan, report completion and accuracy, meeting of agreed deadlines, and managing project related activities.
- Examines complex customer samples and learns to operate appropriate tests for each Case.
- Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
- Understands and is able to explain specific test standards for scope of responsibility.
- Directs, builds and/or adapts simple test setups and equipment to new situations, based on test plans and instructions from engineering.
- Trains other lab staff on these test procedures or equipment.
- Operates and maintains complex test equipment appropriately to measure and test customer samples.
- Performs complex maintenance on designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- For a single testing technology, integrates basic process and equipment improvements into all aspects of the job.
- Communicates with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new equipment, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Other duties as directed.
Job requirements
- University Degree in Engineering (in related field of work) as well as 2 years Work Experience or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high quality and exceptional customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully partner with Engineering and other Laboratory personnel to complete projects in a timely manner with high quality.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze special testing needs.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must Ability to incorporate automation into day-to-day testing.
