Classification: Junior School

Reporting to: Deputy Head (Academic)

The core responsibilities will include:

• Showing commitment to and embracing the mission and vision of the school.

• Acting as Class Teacher of a class consisting of up to 20 students, including planning, delivery, assessment and review.

• Setting regular assessments with an awareness of each student’s capabilities and recording attainments.

• To liaise with their Vietnamese co-teacher in planning an effective dual language teaching programme which supports the aims of the school (Music, PE, Art and Languages are taught by specialist teachers).

• Daily liaison with other staff such as TAs, ESL assistants and Junior School coordinators.

• Responsible for organising the work of the teaching assistant.

• Responsible for display, performances, trips and organising some aspects of special events.

• Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each pupil.

• Offering at least one extracurricular activity after school.

• Undertaking supervision duty as directed by the SLT.

• Meeting with and communicating with parents in a timely, knowledgeable and professional manner.

• Participating in the Positive Horizons coaching programme.

• Reporting and providing regular feedback on student progress to SLT and parents at designated times in the term and year.

• Act in accordance with school policy, relevant legislation in Vietnam, as well as UK guidelines where appropriate, particularly with regards to educational provision, health and safety initiatives and safeguarding.

• Participating in regular in-service training (INSET) opportunities as part of continuing professional development (CPD)

Professional qualifications:

• Teaching qualification

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

Professional experience:

• Proficient and experienced in teaching, ideally with experience of the IB PYP and/or National Curriculum for England

• An understanding of systematic synthetic phonics and mastery/Singapore Maths would be advantageous

• Proven track record of outstanding teaching

• Recent experience of working with students from a variety of cultures

• Experience of working with students with a range of different needs, including high attaining students.

• Demonstrated evidence of raising the achievement and standards of students

• Experience of delivering a broad, balanced and academically ambitious curriculum

• Evidence of recent participation in continuing professional development

Personal qualities and skills:

• Work effectively as a member of a team

• A positive and energetic classroom presence with the ability to inspire students

• Flexible, inclusive and pragmatic style

• High level interpersonal skills

• Confident in meeting and communicating with others

• Possess good organisational skills, manage time efficiently

• Excellent English

• An ability to remain calm under pressure, a good sense of humour and the necessary enthusiasm to enjoy the challenges of the role are essential

Safeguarding:

• Being fully aware of the school’s policies and procedures surrounding safeguarding.

• Bringing to the immediate attention of the designated safeguarding lead and the SLT any safeguarding concerns.

• Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes
