BIM Modeler

Our Structural Engineering Practice collaborates with architects, building owners, and builders to design elegant solutions for projects of all types, sizes, and levels of complexity. From designing the world’s tallest buildings and most extended spans to engineering inventive “jewel-box” structures and designing major expansion projects, we continually seek the best balance among the demands of form, function, sustainability, constructability, schedule, and budget.

The Role

The BIM Modeler will create project deliverable 3D models and 2D drawings using Autodesk Revit as well as Thornton Tomasetti’s suite of internally developed interoperability tools. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, passionate about BIM associated technologies and building structural systems, and able to work in an independent and self-directed manner in all aspects of the building design and document production process.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models to a high level of accuracy with instruction, industry guidelines, and Thornton Tomasetti standards and practices.

• Develop plans, sections, elevations, schedules and details from a 3D BIM model for projects of all sizes and technical complexities.

• Clearly annotate, dimension, and detail 2D production drawings in conformance to Thornton Tomasetti standards and practices.

• Set up and geo-locate multiple models for a single project.

• Manage the BIM workflow including folder organization, sheet sets, plots, revisions, and transmittals.

• Maintain structural BIM files for use in the structural design drawings (clean-up, audit, reference, troubleshooting).

• Use software such as Bluebeam, BIM360/ACC, and Navisworks for project collaboration across multiple disciplines in a BIM environment.

• Collaborate with engineers and PMs to coordinate BIM modeling content and approaches, model exchanges, quality control, and delivery.

• Experience in collaborating with Architecture and MEP drawings/models is preferred.

• Continued development of “best practices” for BIM.

Requirements

• Degree in a related disciplines (Structure, Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc.).

• Familiar with Autodesk Revit Structure and BIM360/ACC is required.

• Minimum of 4 years of BIM experience is preferred.

• Working knowledge of drawing production, standard construction techniques, and principals.

• Thorough understanding of building components for modeling structural components intelligently and efficiently to ensure the integrity of the structural model.

• Excellent written, and verbal communication skills in English.

• Demonstrate a reliable, responsive, and positive work ethic with the highest degree of integrity.

• Experience with Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper, Navisworks, Tekla, and data exchanges between BIM platforms is preferred.
